True Crime Club at The Lazy Daisy Virginia Beach, October 13 meeting on Death of the Pastor's Wife

True Crime Club: Death of the Pastor's Wife and the Case of Mica Miller | October 13 at Lazy Daisy VA Beach

Content note: This meeting discusses domestic abuse, coercive control, and suicide. Resources are at the bottom of this post.

Have you watched Netflix's Death of the Pastor's Wife and can't stop thinking about it? Come talk it through with us. This October, the True Crime Club is diving into the case of Mica Miller, and we'd love to have you at the table.

Tuesday, October 13 | 6:00 to 8:00 PM | The Lazy Daisy Virginia Beach
4001 Virginia Beach Blvd

Here's what's on the agenda for the evening:

  • The death of Mica Miller. We'll walk through the timeline of her final days and the events that led up to them.
  • The history of abuse the documentary didn't cover. A three-episode series can only fit so much. We'll go deeper into the background and allegations beyond what made it on screen.
  • South Carolina's proposed coercive control legislation. Mica's family says the stalking and harassment she reported didn't count as crimes in her state because she was married to the person doing it. They're now backing "Mica's Law," also known as SB 702, which would make coercive control a crime and add psychological, emotional, and financial abuse to the state's definition of domestic violence. The bill stalled in the 2026 session, and its co-sponsor has said he plans to bring it back. We'll talk about what it would change.
  • The case today. John-Paul Miller was indicted on federal cyberstalking and false statement charges and has pleaded not guilty. He hasn't been charged in connection with Mica's death. We'll discuss where things stand, and only what's been publicly reported.
  • And more! Your questions, your theories, your takeaways. This is a conversation, not a lecture.
